Agnes Obel-Philharmonics

The title of the album tells the entire story.  This is a classic album, full of rolling piano and in some instances a full Philharmonic orchestra.  Agnes Obel has a booming voice to back the swimming melodies.  "The compositions... are slow, somber, sepulchral even, but not without a sense of occasionally singular beauty".   Philharmonics contain three titles that are purely instrumental: Falling and Catching, Louretta, and Wallflower.

During March 2011, Obel appeared for the first time in United States, at the South by Southwest (SXSW) music festival in Austin; Agnes Obel performed all the titles of Philharmonics.   This is a beautiful album, anyone who has studied, or is currently studying classical music this is a must hear.  The only thing I didn’t like about the album is the lack of percussion in most of the songs.  However the strong melodies and singing in some instances make up for it.  I’m giving this album a 9 of 10 for general beauty, and technicalities.-Woody XD

Between The Buried & Me-The Parallax-Hypersleep Dialogues

I only got a taste of this 7th release from the North Carolina natives Between The Buried & Me.  This is just classic metal, with a very heavy taste of horror piano.  Even with the deep tones of the piano with decent melody this is not a great album.  I’m giving this a 2 of 10, if you’re into metal you might enjoy this album, otherwise just forget it. It’s definitely not worth the buy.-Woody XD

Jack Johnson-Bushfire Fairytales

This is what would happen if Maroon 5, OneRepublic, and Jason Mraz had a huge orgy.  This is a re-release of the songwriter’s debut album with completely cleaned up tracks, and a whole to new energy to some of the extra tracks that come exclusively with this deluxe re-release.   Jack Johnson is known greatly in Europe, but hasn’t really made a splash in America since his debut in 2001.  This album is awesome if you have been listening to Jack Johnson for a while, especially if you enjoyed the original Bushfire Fairytales.  For respect and technicalities I’m going to give this album a 6 of 10.  And being a fan this is such a low rating due to lack of creativity.  If you have enough to create a new album, do it.-Woody XD

Foo Fighters-Wasting Light

“MY FAMOUS LAST WORDS!”-Dave Grohl.  I’ve been waiting for this one.  The Foo Fighters are back and they don’t disappoint with they’re 7th LP since 1995.  This album hits hard back to home like the last couple of albums.  Songs made of angry love, heartbreak, and an undertone of violence.   As far as the music goes, its classic Foo Fighters.  Most of the songs sound just like they’re debut album.   Like I said I have been waiting for this album since the last release, and still hope to catch the live show coming close to me this next month however seems now like it will be only to catch the classic songs that stayed with me.

This album tip-toes on the brink of Cliché and just doesn’t touch me like they’re previous hits have.  At one point they try some scream-o and not to ruin the album for you…it doesn’t work out for anyone, especially my eardrums.  Because of who this is and what I expected I’m giving this a 5 of 10…get with the program, what’s going on here?-Woody XD

Elbow-Build A Rocket Boys

This is the fifth release from the inner city Manchester, England folk band.  The tranquil guitar hits and almost drunken lyrics sound like Pink Floyd at times, but bear no real resemblance.   This album is just kind of slow and sad.  Nice album if you need to get to sleep quickly, otherwise it has no real use in today’s society.  I’m giving this 3 of 10.  Don’t need anything more to make me want to cut myself-Woody XD

Alison Krauss & Union Station-Paper Airplanes

This is classic Alison Krauss with the bluegrass addition of the Union Station.  She sings a soft melody throughout the entire album.   Union Statin packs a huge bluegrass punch.  I don’t have much to say about this album because it’s not really my genre.   If you get into classic country music with a beautiful female lead, then this is a must hear this year.  Out of respect and once again technicalities of its genre, I’m going to give this album a 7 of 10.  Pretty if you’re into country music-Woody XD

Natalia Kills-Perfection

Really decent dance album, from a beautiful young girl from England.  Once this drops in America it will be heading straight up the charts.  Simply because it’s a somewhat generic lyrics with real heavy auto tune on almost everything she does.  What sets her apart is the fact that she throws in a lot of dirty jokes along-side lyrics that depicts the problems of every 24 year old female, and not to mention she has a dirty little mouth.  If you’re a candy kid this is a definite must hear.  If you’re not, then you’re really not going to care much about this album.  But out of respect for her humor and in all technicalities I’m going to give this album an 8 of 10.   Plus This girl is super-hot…and likes to cuss a lot so she is my kind of girl, regardless of what her music sounds like…Woody XD
